In 1989, Chris and Sara Fortune purchased Graber, a family-owned bicycle rack company in Madison, WI that manufactured roof, trunk and hitch racks
Together, Chris and Sara put their mark on the business - starting by re-branding the bicycle racks Saris - which is a combination of their names
Chris and Sara envisioned a line of bicycle racks that would be made in the U.S. and distributed globally. They partnered with renowned Italian designer Fabio Pedrini to design racks that would be stylish and easy-to-use.
In 1991, Fabio's first Saris bicycle rack, the Mountaineer, was launched in independent bicycle dealers. The Mountaineer received rave reviews, and the company's sales started growing overnight.
Demand for the well-designed bicycle racks quickly grew beyond the U.S. In 1991, the company expanded its reach into Asia, shipping its first container of product overseas. Today, Saris Cycling Group products are sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
In 1994, the Saris Bones trunk rack entered the market. With its iconic design, the Saris Bones has become one of the most recognizable and best-selling bicycle racks in the world. Other successful models followed, including the beautifully designed, easy-to-use Thelma hitch rack and Solo trunk rack.
